Driving up to the lodge — we have snow!
Looking back down into the San Joaquin Valley
Yep, definitely snow. The fireplace inside Wuksachi Lodge beckons.

General Sherman Tree, the largest tree on earth by volume
Big Trees Trail (they must have been up all night thinking up that one)
Ed by Ned: two sequoias that grew so closely together, they fused at the bottom
Many big trees, indeed
Also, little trees
One of the highlights of our visit was meeting Park Ranger Ryan Verhegge. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic, he took us on a terrific hike in the Giant Forest.
Views of the Great Western Divide and San Joaquin Valley from Beetle Rock
Sadly, the panoramic views were filled with dead trees in every direction, victims of the long California drought
Off we go with Ranger Ryan
The resilient bark of the Giant Sequoias bears the scars of past fires
This tree was fascinating — from one side it appeared completely burned out and dead, but on the other side it was still flourishing with new green growth
What a beautiful trip. The lighting and the snow on these sequoias is magnificent. And Ray's strength in toppling that tree!
